Period book to download for free for tweens and teens everywhere

We thought we would give the tweens and teens that come to the site, or at least their parents, something a little different today. KiddyCharts have partnered with another social enterprise, Hey Girls, who offer period products in the UK, and they donate one when you buy one. Thanks to them, we are sharing with you a period book with all you need to know about periods to help educate your kids about just what The Time of the Month is all about, and how it affects girls globally.

The facts about period poverty

Before we share the book, we wanted to give you an idea of just what period poverty is, and why what Hey Girls are doing is so, so important that we felt we needed to give them a little support. One social enterprise to another.

For example, did you know:

• 24% of women in the UK struggled to afford period products in 2022,
• 1 in 5 young women between 14-21 reported they were not able to afford period products since the start of 2022, and
• 49% of 14-21 year old’s have missed an entire day of education per month because of their period- of which 59% made up a lie or alternative excuse.

That means that a QUARTER of women in the UK find it difficult to buy period products. According to The Journal of Global Health Reports, a staggering two thirds of the 16.9million women who menstruate in the US struggle to afford period products. Globally, 500million women are finding it hard to manage their menstrual cycles hygienically.

Hey Girls are doing the best they can do help in the UK, and we need more organisations like theirs globally. At least Always is looking to help in the US by donating to food banks on purchase; this is a great place to start.

What is included within the period book download

This is a BOOK, and so we cannot provide all the pages for you here so you can take a look as otherwise you’d be here forever. However, we can give you an idea of some of the content, as well as the contents pages of the book. • Some activities for you to do, and finally
• Glossary of terms, so that you know exactly what we are talking about when we talk about it!

We know that this might seem a little bit daunting to take in all at once. So why not just print it out, and then you can dip in and out of the period book when you need to.

You could print it out and leave it for your child where you think they might spot it, and pick it up themselves, or you can start the conversion yourself with the book as a bit of an aid. You do whatever works for you and your children.

As you can see, this is a really simple idea with a box for every day, and a key to show how heavy the period is. Keep it simple, and you are much more likely to use it, right?
