The Scottish Book trust tour continues to travel around the country, with the tour visiting a number of UK cities now. Authors continue to encourage kids not only to read, but to be good story tellers too. Vivian French, the latest author to take part, has some excellent advice for kids on how to do just that:
Her most important point is that when you are telling a tale, that you are really passionate about your story beforehand, otherwise if you aren’t keen, why would anyone else be? *Obvs*
Vivian most definitely has some wonderful experiences to share with the audiences on her tour, as she has written over 200 books for kids of all age groups, including the Tale from the Five Kingdom series. The first of these, The Robe of Skulls, won the 2008 Stockton Children’s Book of the Year Award.
She visited over 2,000 primary school kids, in 11 different schools – which is unbelievable – we are sure that she will have inspired many children to read more, and then write better.
In many of the schools she visited, the children were involved in writing their own crazy tales, inspired by The Tales from the Five Kingdom’s series. Vivian was delighted to hear of a rather angry jaguar, a bit of a feisty kangaroo, and a very, hungry monster.
The kids were desperate to get hold of Vivien’s book after they met her, one of the staff at a school she visited even said:
““The feedback I got was amazing! The children are all really buzzing this morning! I am sure that for many of the children, yesterday was the first time they have ever bought a book!”
