Summer festivals are a part of Britain’s culture. Whether you and your family are into food, music, sports, or all of the above, there is a festival out there with your name on it. Here is our handy guide to UK festivals to help you plan your summer of fun; and make sure that you are rockin’ the festival vibe with the best of them!
Best for Under 10s
Geronimo is a fantastic family festival aimed at families with children aged two to 12. Billed as the largest children’s festival in the North West, it takes place in Tatton Park in Knutsford over the May Bank Holiday (23-25 May 2015) under hopefully glorious sunny skies. There will be hundreds of activities, including the LEGOLAND Discovery Centre, live music, tree climbing, an inflatable village, circus workshops, CBeebies characters, BMX bike displays, and so much more!
Tickets cost £25 for an adult day pass and £75 for a family of four. There’s no camping, and you’ll need to buy additional tickets if you want to attend on more than one day. Children under 2-years old don’t require a ticket.
Best for Music
Camp Bestival (30 July – 2 August 2015) definitely wins our vote for the best family friendly festival for music lovers. You’ll never have a dull moment as you make your way from stage to stage, enjoying acts such as Kaiser Chiefs, Professor Green, and Soul II Soul. A non-stop schedule of entertainment and activities caters for kids of all ages, including face painting, go-karting, and BBC celebrities like Mister Tumble and Dick and Dom. Rob da Bank’s Music Club is geared for older kids, and there’s a devoted area just for toddlers.
Bestival was created by parents who appreciate that just because fun may look a little different when you have kids, it doesn’t mean you want to stop having it! Mammasaurus has been involved from a blogging point of view for a year or so now, and we have only seen great things on her blog.
Best for Camping
Green Man Festival (20-23 August 2015) couldn’t be in a more picturesque spot. Nestled away in Crickhowell, in Wales’ Brecon Beacons, it’s surrounded by mountains, rivers and fields. The week of the festival is the only time you’re allowed to camp on site, so make the most of it by extending your camping ticket to a full week for just £40 extra. Only 10,000 tickets are sold, with adult tickets costing £165, teens (13 to 17 years) costing £100, and 5 to 12-year olds costing £15. Children four years and under go in for free.
This year’s line-up features Super Furry Animals, Hot Chip, and Matthew White. Its small size, good organisation, and community spirit makes Green Man popular with families.
Best for Newbies
Held over the third weekend in August (21-23 August 2015) in Escot Park in Devon, Beautiful Days is a brilliant festival just right for first timers. Capacity is limited to 13,500 so you get the festival vibe without having to fight your way through tens of thousands to get to the stage. There is something for everyone, with this year’s line-up including The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, and Happy Mondays.
The site is extremely well organised and run with a family camping site, and a large area dedicated to children’s entertainment. Weekend camping tickets cost £135 for adults, £65 for children aged 10 to 16, £35 for children aged five to 10, and £5 for those less than five years old.
Pack your wellies and the tent and make this summer all about the festival fun!
