Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse Review – in the box

When we got this mouse from the lovely people at Anywhere Working, we thought that we had been asked to review something from Star Trek. To be honest, it looked like one of those flippy things you talk to people on – bet the geeks would know what it was called really… *answers below*

It definitely looks good. It’s a beautiful sleek design and would be a nice addition to any design freaks desk. But does it do the job?

Getting started

It was straight out of the box and off. It was that easy to set up; even Little Star could do it. It comes with batteries, and dinky magnetic wireless USB that you connect to your PC. All you need to do is bend it up and it turns on. So top marks for ease to set up.

Ease of use

I have to admit to rather liked my old Microsoft mouse, so it has taken me a little bit to get used to this one. It looks great on my cluttered desk, but it is quite small for my big, chunky hands. And Brad struggled with the size too, feeling it was a bit small for his massive mits as well. He is over 6ft you know. The touch scrolling took a bit of getting used to as I was happy with my wheel. However, after a couple of days I have got the hang of it and don’t notice it in the end. Once you are used to it, it pretty much works just like the wheel does.

Occasionally, the touch strip has a mind of its own, possibly as its sensitive to my slightly over enthusiastic hands, and it scrolls up and down at random.  But I suspect this would ease in time as you got used to the controls.

On the move

The mouse is compact and easy to carry; but hey, that’s what it’s designed for. The magnetic USB means its simple to disconnect from your PC, attach to the back of the mouse and pop your mouse in your handbag / manbag or laptop bag; perfect for that meeting at the coffice.

Using the mouse on the move was something that intrigued me about this product before the review.  I read you can even use it on a duvet. And you can!  Its not as responsive as it is on the desk; but hey, its got a duvet under it for goodness sake!

So for those that work in bed, are out and about so mouse mats aren’t practical, it could be a godsend. For me, it was just a bit of fun, but for you, it’ll enable you to get that report done more easily before you catch your next flight. It wasn’t so long ago that I had to do that kind of thing that I can’t remember how vital that 30mins before a flight can be to fit in your pre-work for your important meetings. Or in fact, do you last minute speech preparations…

Overall – 7/10 general everyday use, but 9/10 as a handheld-mouse for use on the move

A great looking mouse, which is good for those on the move, but probably not for regular use at home due to is size with larger hands.  It’s a mouse for the travellers and coffice workers among you.  And I am sure there are some working mums out there like me that would love to have this mouse next to their chocolate cake as they work.
