The Good Life?

Helly Hansen’s latest research unveils the average Brit thinks their life is only 29 per cent fun

About Helly Hansen:

unnamed

Leading global ski and sailing brand, Helly Hansen, has revealed the average Brit considers less than a third of their day to be fun, with a lack of time, money and effort to live their life to the full.

The recent poll of 2,000 adults coincides with the launch of the brand’s latest global campaign, ‘Alive since 1877’, inspiring people to feel alive in the outdoors, whilst reflecting on the company’s unrivalled heritage of developing professional-grade gear to help people stay and feel alive.

The survey results found one in ten admitting they feel they are completely missing fun from their lives, with another 53 per cent saying they only really feel truly alive at the weekends. Being outdoors, embracing nature and the elements – which is at the heart of Helly Hansen’s brand ethos – emerged as one of the most fun things to do in life, alongside skiing and going on holiday or travelling.

More than half of the people surveyed feel they aren’t living life to the full, with 88 per cent feeling like they need to make more of their lives.

The research found just one in five consider their lives to be fun, with a third saying they often feel like life is more work than play. One in twenty even went as far as to say they feel like they are simply living to work. In fact, Brits feel the average day is 45 per cent work and just 29 per cent fun, with more than three quarters even said they often have days where it feels like all they do is eat, sleep and work.

The study found that going on holiday or travelling to another country is the most fun thing to do in life, followed by spending time among nature and enjoying being outside. A road trip driving long country roads and watching children play complete the top ten, with boating or being by the ocean and skiing, featuring high up in the list.

Researchers also found one in four admit they can’t remember the last time they felt alive, with another one in ten saying it was at least a year ago. Three in ten believe skiing is a great way to feel alive, along with exercise and watching a sunrise or sunset.

Consumers can participate in the new campaign beginning in November through a social media-based activation: #feelalive. Partakers will have the chance to win Helly Hansen prizes by submitting personal inspiring images or stories of moments where they #feelalive.

KiddyCharts has reach of over 1.1million across social and the site. The blog works with big family brands (including travel) to help promote their services, as well as offering free resources to parents of kids under 10. It gives 51%+ profits to Reverence for Life, who fund a number of important initiatives in Africa, including bringing running water and basic equipment to a school in Tanzania.
