Today we have been enjoying some sunshine, and have made this flower activity for toddlers and preschoolers.
In this activity, the children can take the petals on and off the flower. This is great for practicing fine motor skills, counting and hand-eye co-ordination.
Older children can help to make this by helping with the cutting, glueing and tracing so this can be fun for the whole family.
Here’s the materials we used to make it:
- Yellow, green and brown felt
- A piece of plain card
- Scissors
- Glue
- Velcro
- Pen
This is how we made it:
First take the green felt and cut the grass out in a zigzag shape (long enough to cover the bottom of the card) and glue onto the card
Using the brown felt cut the stalk and the centre circle of the flower and glue into place onto the card
Now is time to make the petals. I found it easiest to make a template of a petal on a piece of card first which you can cut out and use as this way the petals are uniform. You can then use that template to cut out the petals from the yellow felt
Use the same template to draw the outline of the petals onto the card
Take the Velcro and stick a small piece on each outline of the petal You are now ready to play and the felt petals can be put onto the right place
Enjoy!
