Meet a mum just like you…Almaz Kebede in Ethiopia #FoodFrontline

WorldVision IF Campaign: Enough Food IF.....

I mentioned last week, that we were going to be supporting the WorldVision IF campaign this week.

A few bloggers, including Single Slummy Mummy, are in Ethiopia at the moment, helping to raise awareness of the IF campaign and to see first hand how the aid WorldVision are giving is helping families out there.

I am delighted to say that we have had a wonderful video from a mum in Ethiopia who is talking about how she is trying to do the best for her three children; Eyob (21 – son), Simegn (18 – daughter) and Bethelem (7 – daughter).

She is a mother, just like, me; and, just like me, she wants to do the best she can for her children. Thanks for WorldVision sponsorship, her children are now getting much needed help and support.

Over to you, Almaz….

The #FoodFrontline - Meet Almaz

I showed my children this video this morning before school. To help them understand that there are many people out there who aren’t as lucky as we are, who don’t have the resources, and support that we do. I also showed them the “IF” campaign video…and my daughter said:

“This is a good thing to do, isn’t it mummy?”

Enough food for everyone IF

And it is – though its not as simple as all that, of course!

HOW CAN WE HELP?

Show support in anyway you can to the bloggers who are there, and to the campaign by:

Following their trip

You can do this by using the hashtag #FoodFrontline and checking out @mummyblogger,@FoodStories and @HuntrGatherCook on Twitter.

Shouting it out loud

Tell everyone you know what is going on. Tweet, Facebook, Google Plus, do whatever it takes and get the message from WorldVision out there.

Telling your MP

WorldVision UK have made it easy for you to get your voice heard. You can email your local MP and ask them to take action to stop global hunger now. IF we all act now, hunger will become a thing of the past. UK, and global governments needs to understand that the UK population, and other country, want this to be an important part of global foreign policy moving forward.

Sponsoring a Child

I know its hard at this difficult time to give to charity, but if you can, help out families, just like Almaz, who has two sponsored children, to make their own way with a little bit of help…sponsor a child today if you can.

So listen to Almaz, and help others like her to support and feed their children…

“My name is Almaz, Almaz Kebede. I’m 38 years old. I’m married and I have three children.

We eat bread for breakfast, and then there’s soup and injera for lunch as well as dinner. These are the common foods we eat in our family.

I wake up early every morning to prepare breakfast for a local group, then I prepare lunch for my family and to sell. Later, I prepare dinner for my family and again for sale. I’m busy until midnight.

Life was very difficult in the beginning when I had my first child. I tried to help my children by selling bread and injera, as well as local drinks, and it was a really difficult time for me. Now, I try to overcome those challenges by increasing my income and doing different activities.

I have done my best to support and help my kids to continue their education. I used to depend only on selling injera to help my children. Two of them are sponsored children with World Vision, and it helps for their schooling. They receive support, such as help with clothes and education materials, and then I try and cover the extra expenses by selling injera and local food. That is the only income I have.

My son completed grade 10 and I’m dreaming of helping him continue to learn. I hope that they will help me in the future. I will do my best to help them.”

Thanks so much Almaz for chatting to us, and sharing your life with us. Lets see if we can help others like you too. Spare a moment to help.

Please share Almaz’s story.
