This is a sponsored post for Collective Bias®. I visited my local shops to buy and try out VO5 dry shampoo.
I am not really a hair and make-up kind of a girl – I sort of know these things are all there, but using products on hair generally happens to other people…let me enlighten you…
My hair regime
- Brush
- Wash
- Shake
- Dry naturally
I know that’s not really a “regime” is it?
I used to have rather long hair and there was much faffing in the morning to get it to do what I wanted it too; I even used to style it – shock horror – and everything.
Now there really isn’t time for that kind of faffing of a morning – I am lucky to get a shower, often I don’t even bother until the kids have made it to school, and as for the hair well its lucky if I wave a brush at in it anger, so the idea of a shampoo you can put on dry hair well…
…you got my at the word dry….
I have very fine hair, so it doesn’t do as its told unless you wet it, hold it down, and tell it to bl**dy well behave, so it ends up looking tossled, unkempt an generally unloved…
I am not a fan of hairspray either, I just don’t like the way it makes my hair feel, so I was rather pleased to be given the opportunity to try something that I had:
a) never even heard of and sounded rather funky – I know VO5, but didn’t know anything about dry shampoo, and
b) might actually save me some serious time and heartache in the hair department.
My trip shopping was a little bit of a nightmare, and had to be aborted twice as Saffron Walden doesn’t seem to be that keen on stocking VO5 dry shampoo, as you can tell from my Google plus album on the matter. Eventually Superdrug saved the day.
Our brand spanking newly tiled bathroom, which hadn’t even had anyone wash their hair in yet, was ready to be scene of the crime
I prepped – so in true Helen-Hair-Regime style, I pretty much did, erm nothing…
I have to be honest, I was expecting that there to be a bit of preparation but:
Dry Shampoo hair regime
- Brush
- Spray
- Wait
- Massage, and
- Brush
All this is pretty much what I do most days anyway, without the lovely head massage bit, which could be fun. For the dry hair regime, the hair might actually look “like I have just stepped out of a salon” – well, it might…
So here goes
It was amazingly easy to put in – 30 seconds and its done…you have to focus on spraying the roots, but that’s a relatively simple task. All that needs doing now is to just grab the brush, and then taddah…!
I have to be honest that I am impressed with the results, my hair does look washed, and not lack-lustre and unkempt, which is often the state of affairs on a school run morning.
And you’ll never guess what – it does look more voluminous.
The only downside is that it doesn’t feel as silk smooth as it does just after you wash it, and your hands need a good clean to get the shampoo off – but hey, you wouldn’t wonder about with soapsuds on your hands after a wet shampoo now would you?!?
In all, I think it took about 3 minutes to dry shampoo my hair, and a minute of that was waiting for it to work…now that’s a work at home mums time-saving beauty tip if ever I saw one!
You can’t use it all the time of course, the idea is that it means you can skip a wash when you have a deadline to meet, or a screaming child to placate, but if it only takes three minutes, then that’s all you need to get yourself back on track. And for those of you who have colour in your hair, like me, it might just mean you can get away with not going to the hairdressers to get it re-coloured as often. Those 2 and a bit hours can take a massive chunk out of a working mum’s productive time, can’t they?!!?
Have you used dry shampoo? What do you think of it?

I laughed when you said "shock horror" lol yeah it happens. Anyway, usually the cut back on washing is for dry and frizzy hair i think and the conditioning is daily. This v05 dry shampoo is new to me, interesting. I guess i should give a try. thanks for the beauty tip and yes of course you have a lovely smile Helen! :) cheers!
