Encouraging self-esteem in our kids is extremely important; the most confident a child feels, then they are more willing and able to take on the challenges that life throws at them. Would it be great to be able to encourage self esteem early in life? The Be Happy to be You book recently produced by a retired teacher, Diane Hull was written precisely with this in mind.
The synopsis of the book says it all, and teachers are kids such a key lesson on life:
“Baby bird wasn’t happy.
He longed to be like other animals.
He wanted to swim and run and jump.
But he had to learn to be happy as he was…
He had to learn just to be himself!”
Baby bird wasn’t happy with his lot; but he just needs to learn that whatever cards he has been dealt, he’s awesome!
Diane is a retired primary teacher, who had to retire early due to Parkinson’s Disease. After her years of experience, the gift of confidence, and a strong sense of self, are the most important lessons we can teach our children. Be Happy to be You offers a story with a strong moral focus on enabling children as young as three to begin to build that confidence to help them excel later in life.
Baby Bird is a charming character, and we are lucky enough to be able to provide you with four colouring sheets of scenes from the book as an additional activity to do with your children, after you have read them the book.
You can use these great resources as a learning tool to colour in alongside chatting about the themes within the book. Why not chat to your kids about:
- What they like about themselves?
- Why they like these things,
- Is there anything they don’t like about themselves and why?
At the same time as asking this, making sure we provide reassurances that these things aren’t as bad as they think, and that everyone is different, just like Baby Bird, and we celebrate those differences. You are who you are, and it is important to be Happy to be You!
We hope you like these colouring sheets from the Happy to be You book, if you do, then why not sign up to our weekly newsletter, so you always get these resources as we release them on the site?
We’ve loved sharing this with you, see you soon.
