Self care workbook for working moms everywhere

Today we are sharing with you a very important tool for working moms everywhere: our new self care workbook. Self care is critical for helping and supporting ourselves, and just as important to teach self care and self regulation to our children. If we are able to cope with our fluctuating emotions, it is much more likely that our children will be able to do the same. Self care is a critical part of looking after ourselves so we are able to regulate, and so interact with our kids in a calmer way.

What is the self care workbook for?

This “Self-Care Workbook for Working Moms” provides practical tips and strategies for working mothers to achieve better work-life balance.

It covers a number of different topics, including:

  • Setting clear boundaries between work and personal time,
  • Prioritizing tasks using the Eisenhower Matrix,
  • Establishing a consistent daily routine,
  • Using technology tools for organization and productivity,
  • Outsourcing and delegating tasks at work and home,
  • Practicing self-care activities like exercise, meditation, and hobbies,
  • Batching and time blocking to improve focus,
  • Being flexible and forgiving when unexpected situations arise,
  • Limiting multitasking and having open communication with family and employer,
  • Setting realistic goals and carving out “me” time,
  • Meal prepping and batch cooking to save time, and
  • Unplugging from work-related technology regularly.

The workbook also includes templates for a weekly self-care plan, a daily self-care journal, and a self-care ideas list to inspire working moms.

Why bother with self care as a mom?

The reasons why self-care is important for mental health when we are working are many – here are some of our views though, with a counsellor as editor 😂 :

  • Reduces stress and burnout: Practicing self-care activities helps working moms recharge and prevent emotional and physical exhaustion.
  • Improves mood and emotional regulation: Self-care promotes positive mental health by boosting mood, increasing feelings of well-being, and enhancing emotional control.
  • Enhances cognitive function: Activities like exercise, mindfulness, and hobbies can improve focus, concentration, and decision-making abilities.
  • Strengthens resilience: When we take care of ourselves, we’re better equipped to handle the inevitable challenges and setbacks that come with work and parenting.
  • Promotes better physical health: Self-care practices like healthy eating, sleep, and regular exercise support overall physical well-being.

Self care is particularly important with neurodivergent brains. If you are an ADHD or autistic parent, looking after yourself before you engage in looking after your kids is critical.

It’s the emotional equivalent of putting on your own face mask before you help your kids. If you aren’t in the emotional space to deal with your own emotions, it is much harder to help your children to learn to deal with theirs.

How self-care supports your kids:

Let’s give you a bit more on this.

  • Models healthy coping strategies: When parents prioritize self-care, they demonstrate to their children the importance of taking care of one’s mental and physical health.
  • Enables co-regulation: By regulating their own emotions and stress levels, parents can better support their children in learning emotional regulation skills.
  • Improves parenting quality: Practicing self-care helps working moms maintain patience, energy, and presence when interacting with their children.
  • Fosters a calmer home environment: A parent who is mentally and physically well is better able to create a peaceful, nurturing atmosphere for the whole family.

Overall, the “Self-Care Workbook for Working Moms” provides a valuable resource for mothers seeking to achieve a healthier work-life balance and prioritize their own well-being – which in turn benefits their children and the entire family.
